This Sunday on Fine Tuning I’ll be featuring “Woodland,” the poignant and beautiful new album by Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. The album is named after the duo’s studio in Nashville, which was almost destroyed by a tornado in March of 2020. The pair, who have been making music together for decades, won a Grammy for best folk album in 2021 for the covers album they recorded in the immediate aftermath (“All the Good Times Are Past & Gone”). “Woodland” is their first set of original songs in many years, and easily one of the best things I have heard so far in 2024!
