Martin Bandyke’s Moving Pictures

It’s kind of hard to believe this, but I’ll be starting my 30th year as a radio host next month. A quick timeline: Feb. 27, 1983 was my first official day as co-host of the Dimension program at WDET-FM in Detroit. I was at ‘DET until December of 2005, and then became the morning drive host at Ann Arbor’s 107one in January of 2006.

To help celebrate the occasion, I’ll be presenting a bunch of very cool music films at Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theater, and I’d love for you to join me there! A few more films are in the final stages of confirmation, but here are the basic facts:

Martin Bandyke’s Moving Pictures is a thirteen week film series which will run at Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theater each Monday night from February 6 through April 30, in conjunction with the start of my 30th year in radio.

Russ Collins, the President of the Michigan Theater, has given me the honor of curating a selection of music-oriented films to screen at the historic venue, including everything from classics (Gimme Shelter, Monterey Pop, Don’t Look Back) to newer films receiving their Ann Arbor premiere (The Anatomy of Vince Guaraldi, Joy Division, Blank City).

These films & dates are confirmed, with all screenings at 7pm:

February 6: THE ANATOMY OF VINCE GUARALDI

February 13: I AM TRYING TO BREAK YOUR HEART

February 20: A TRIP TO THE MOON and JOY DIVISION

February 27: 8 MILE

March 5: GIMME SHELTER

March 12: WHO IS HARRY NILSSON (AND WHY IS EVERYBODY TALKIN’ ABOUT HIM)

March 26: DON’T LOOK BACK

April 2: TOM DOWD AND THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC

April 16: BLANK CITY

April 23: MONTEREY POP

April 30: JAZZ ON A SUMMER’S DAY

I will be at the Michigan in person to introduce the opening film “The Anatomy of Vince Guaraldi,” and will also emcee other screenings (dates/times TBC).

More into to come real soon…stay tuned.
